Lead Assessor Course

Learn how to conduct Assessments for Accreditation.

group_learning_2Use this Lead Assessor Course to learn how to plan and conduct assessments of competence for applicant and accredited laboratories within an ILAC-recognized accreditation body. Examine assessment principles and techniques. Practice the required skills.

Each accreditation body makes use of common interpretations of assessment requirements, but differ in the processes used in the delivery of accreditation. This course can be customised to meet the requirements of the sponsoring accreditation body.

This 5-day Training Course contains the internationally recognized approaches to conducting conformant assessments of competence. The techniques learned promote the interpersonal skills needed to conduct successful assessments. Exercises are assigned and delivered in class. Candidates are expected to review materials during the evenings between training days.

The course contains extensive reference to international interpretation and implementation guidance documents which are used by accreditation bodies around the world. The course is based on one of the following standards used in accreditation of conformity assessment bodies:

  • ISO/IEC 17025 for testing and calibration laboratories
  • ISO/IEC 17020 for inspection bodies
  • ISO/IEC 17043 for proficiency testing providers
  • ISO/IEC 17065 for product certification bodies

Applicants should be seeking approval for use as an assessor in an accreditation body program.  Graduates will have demonstrated generic competence in the conduct of assessments of competence in the examination of the following disciplines at applicant and accredited conformity assessment bodies:

group_learning_5
  • Technical competence,
  • Quality management systems,
  • Traceability and Uncertainty requirements for labs,
  • Impartiality requirements for all types of CABs
  • Continual improvement,
  • Control of documents and records.

See the Course Description here.

This is a “Skills Demonstration” Course

International conformity assessment practice in the delivery of auditor and assessor courses require limits in class size and the number of trainers to be used.  For 1 to 10 participants, one trainer is deemed sufficient.  For 11 to 20 participants a second trainer is needed.  No class can have more than 20 participants.

These limitations are caused by the amount of constant interaction needed between trainers and participants during the conduct of this difficult and demanding course. Participants must demonstrate appropriate assessor knowledge and skills to graduate this course.  Enough trainers must be present to observe required skill sets.
