Louisiana Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (LELAP)

IAS has been approved by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) to provide assessments for laboratories seeking accreditation.

Accreditation is required for commercial laboratories that perform environmental analyses or tests for third parties for a fee or other compensation on behalf of any facility as defined in R.S. 30:2004, required by permit, required by order of the Department, included in a monitoring report, submitted by contract or required by Department regulation.

Assessments are performed every two years at a minimum, although they may be more frequent based on changes reported by the laboratory (ownership, key personnel, location, or scope of accreditation).

Laboratory data generated by commercial environmental laboratories that are not accredited under these regulations will not be accepted by the department in accordance with LAC 33:I.4501.A.2. Whenever samples are subcontracted to another environmental testing laboratory, the original laboratory shall maintain a verifiable copy of the results with a chain of custody. The subcontracting procedure may not be used to circumvent proper accreditation or any state requirements. The original laboratory is responsible for ensuring that the secondary laboratory used is properly accredited for the scope of testing performed in accordance with LAC 33:I.5307.D.
