IAS Accreditation for Product Certification Agencies
  • Demonstrates compliance with ISO/IEC Standard 17065.
  • IAS accreditation is accepted by regulators and the marketplace across domestic and international borders.
  • Provides product manufacturers with verification that their products are tested, inspected, and certified to be safe and meet industry standards.
  • IAS offers prompt, personal service, including rapid scheduling of assessments to meet the needs of agencies.
  • Accreditation serves as an internationally recognized “stamp of approval” for industry and regulators.

Product Certification Agencies accredited by IAS benefit from IAS’s recognition as Multilateral Recognition Arrangement (MLA) signatory with the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC).  Signatories are recognized worldwide based on the equivalency of their accreditation programs, therefore reducing costs and adding value to business and consumers.

Cybersecurity & Product Certification Agency Accreditation

A Product Cybersecurity Certification focuses on ensuring that a specific product or system (like a medical device, industrial control system, vehicle component, or software platform) meets defined cybersecurity standards and is secure against known threats.

What Is Product Cybersecurity Certification?

It certifies that a product meets certain cybersecurity requirements defined by industry standards or regulations, such as: ISO/SAE 21434, for automotive, IEC 62304 for Medical Devices or ISO/IEC 15408 for a common IT framework.

Product Certification Steps:

  1. Determine the Standard or Requirement
  2. Threat Analysis and Risk Assessment (TARA)

Before certification, a risk-based approach is applied:

  • Identify assets and threats
  • Assess risks and attack surfaces
  • Define cybersecurity goals for the product

This phase aligns with Secure Product Development Lifecycle (SDL/SDLC) principles.

  1. Implement Security Controls

The development team must build in necessary controls such as:

  • Authentication/encryption
  • Secure boot
  • Secure communications
  • Vulnerability management
  • Logging and auditability

  1. Documentation and Evidence Collection

The organization must provide:

  • Design documentation
  • Threat models
  • Secure development lifecycle evidence

  1. Third-Party Assessment

An accredited certification body evaluates the product against the applicable criteria.

Key Benefits

  • Market access (some certifications are mandatory, like UNECE R155 in Europe for cars)
  • Customer trust
  • Legal compliance
  • Competitive advantage
