California ELAP (ISO/IEC 17025)

  • For laboratories seeking to meet the California Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP), which includes the requirements of the NELAC Institute TNI Standard.
  • Our environmental customers range from laboratories that conduct testing and sampling of natural water, drinking water, wastewater, bore water, effluents, saltwater, aquatic biology and marine chemistry, organics and in-organics, process water etc.

Example: ELP-109 Irvine Ranch Water District
  • The Irvine Ranch Water District provides high-quality drinking water, reliable sewage collection and treatment, ground-breaking recycled water programs, and environmentally sound urban runoff treatment to approximately 403,000 residents in Central Orange County, California.
  • The District’s Water Quality Lab staff continuously monitors water supplies, conducting more than 250,000 laboratory tests each year from water taken from more than 100 sample points throughout the service area to ensure the quality of the drinking water.

EPA NLLAP (ISO/IEC 17025)

  • For laboratories seeking accreditation under the EPA’s National Lead Laboratory Accreditation Program (NLLAP), to show they are capable of performing adequate analyses for lead in paint films, dust, and soil samples.
  • The NLLAP is an EPA program that defines the minimum requirements and abilities that a laboratory must meet to attain EPA recognition as an accredited lead testing laboratory. EPA established NLLAP to recognize laboratories that demonstrate the ability to accurately analyze paint chips, dust, or soil samples for lead.
  • Fixed-site laboratories, mobile laboratories, and testing firms that operate portable equipment are all eligible to obtain EPA recognition under NLLAP. An organization may choose to be recognized for one, two, or all three of the sample types (paint chips, dust, and soil).
  • NLLAP ensures that participating laboratories have met EPA requirements and demonstrated the capability to accurately analyze paint chips, dust, or soil samples for lead. All laboratories recognized by EPA under NLLAP are required to undergo on-site assessments conducted by an Accreditation Body participating in NLLAP (like IAS).

NELAP / TNI Accreditation (2016 TNI Standard)

  • This standard is for the accreditation of environmental testing laboratories. It involves laboratories that do testing of drinking water, potable water, microbiology, asbestos, radiochemistry, effluent toxicity and biological wastes. Accreditation of these laboratories will ensure safe public health and environmental safety.
  • The NELAC Institute has recognized IAS as a Non-Governmental Accreditation Body.  This recognition enables IAS to accredit laboratories throughout the United States to the 2016 TNI environmental laboratory standard.

Example: TL-509 AGQ USA

  • AGQ Labs USA services the Agricultural and Food industries across North America, mainly through nutritional monitoring of crops and pesticide residue analysis of foods.
  • The scope of the lab includes analysis of drinking water, foliage, soil solution, different food products, aquaculture products and hemp, to determine the presence of heavy metals, pH, electroconductivity, pesticide residue, nicotine, cannabinoids, etc.

Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) (ISO/IEC 17021 and ISO/IEC 17065)

  • For certification bodies seeking to be accredited to the PEFC Sustainable Forest Management standard under the Management Systems Certification Bodies program, and also for certification bodies seeking accreditation to the PEFC Chain of Custody standard under the Product Certification Agencies program.
  • PEFC is a leading global alliance of national forest certification systems. As an international non-profit, non-governmental organization, PEFC is dedicated to promoting sustainable forest management through independent third-party certification. PEFC is the largest forest certification system in the world.
  • PEFC works to protect forests by promoting sustainable forest management through certification. This allows people to benefit from the products that forests provide now, while ensuring that these forests will be around for generations to come.

California Air Resources Board (CARB)

  • CARB is charged with protecting the public from the harmful effects of air pollution and developing programs and actions to fight climate change. From requirements for clean cars and fuels to adopting innovative solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, California has pioneered a range of effective approaches that have set the standard for effective air and climate programs for the nation, and the world.
  • For testing laboratories involved in determining formaldehyde concentrations in air and emission rates from wood products. It involves ASTM E133 (large chamber testing), ASTM D6007 (small chamber testing), ASTM D5882 (Desiccator) and related standards.

Example: TL-220 QAI Laboratories Inc.

  • QAI is an independent third-party testing, inspection and certification organization which serves the building industry, government and individuals.
  • The scope of the lab includes – ASTM D6007 – Standard Test Method for Determining Formaldehyde Concentrations in Air from Wood Products Using a Small-Scale Chamber

Energy Star

  • Energy Star is a program run by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy that promotes energy efficiency. The program provides information on the energy consumption of products and devices using different standardized methods.
  • For testing laboratories involved in testing of Energy Star products and ensures that testing is per the requirements of Energy Star protocols and standards, as appropriately referenced.

Example: TL-264 Architectural Testing, Inc. (An Intertek Company)

  • Intertek provides the fastest, most efficient path to ENERGY STAR® Certification.
  • All manufacturers seeking to use the ENERGY STAR® label must submit products for third-party certification from EPA Recognized Certification Bodies (CBs).
  • Intertek is the first EPA Recognized Certification Body to cover all gas and electrical ENERGY STAR® product categories (covering more than 60 product types).

EPA WaterSense

  • WaterSense, a voluntary partnership program sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), is both a label for water-efficient products and a resource for helping you save water.
  • The WaterSense label makes it simple to find water-efficient products, new homes, and programs that meet EPA’s criteria for efficiency and performance. WaterSense-labeled products and services are certified to use at least 20 percent less water, save energy, and perform as well as or better than regular models.
  • For testing laboratories involved in testing of WaterSense products and ensures that testing is per the requirements of EPA WaterSense protocols and standards, as appropriate referenced.
