ELAP requirements

IAS provides assessments for laboratories seeking to meet the California Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP) requirements established by the State Water Resources Control Board.

Since 1975, IAS has accredited numerous testing laboratories within the U.S. and globally in a variety of industry sectors spanning from chemistry to engineering and environmental. The IAS accreditations demonstrate competence in testing to the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025, The NELAC Institute (TNI), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, California Air Resource Board, Department of Defense (DoD) Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (DoD ELAP), the Department of Environmental Consolidated Audit Program (DoE CAP), and other state and regulatory requirements. Our environmental customers range from laboratories that conduct testing and sampling of natural water, drinking water, wastewater, bore water, effluents, saltwater, aquatic biology and marine chemistry, organics and in-organics, process water etc.

Accreditation to California ELAP

The new California ELAP regulations require accredited laboratories to implement a nationally accepted standard, called The NELAC Institute (TNI) Standard, for managing all factors that potentially can affect the quality of lab results – from the quality of supplies and equipment to the training of laboratory staff.

IAS is the only California-based Non-governmental Accreditation Body (NGAB) recognized to provide third-party assessments for accreditation to the TNI Standard. IAS is working with laboratories in California seeking to meet the new state requirements. In addition to assessing laboratories for California ELAP, IAS can also provide accreditation to the TNI 2016 Standard and ISO/IEC 17025 Standard.

Vice President of Global Accreditations and Quality, Mohan Sabaratnam, details how IAS can assist labs with their accreditation needs. Recognition under TNI as a Non-Governmental Accreditation Body enables IAS to provide accreditation to labs for the TNI standard under NELAP, California ELAP, and ISO/IEC 17025.
