Fabricator Inspection Program

After a comprehensive evaluation, the Clark County, Nevada, Department of Development Services has designated the International Accreditation Service, Inc. (IAS), Fabricator Inspection Program as a recognized accreditation resource for structural steel fabricators.

Any structural steel fabricator who earns IAS Fabricator Inspection accreditation now meets Clark County’s requirements for an approved fabricator. As well, any structural steel fabricator accredited by IAS will have a special designation as a “recognized fabrication facility” per the Clark County Building Administrative Code.

Before recognizing the IAS program, Clark County carefully reviewed IAS processes, including the evaluation of fabrication procedural manuals, on-site inspections, requirements for unannounced facility inspections, and other quality control, procedural and workmanship checks as required by the International Codes. IAS is now considered a “Nationally Recognized Body” as defined in the Clark County Building Administrative Code.

Pat McCullen, Vice President of IAS, says, “IAS is pleased to have worked with Clark County in harmonizing requirements for structural steel fabricators, thereby facilitating the recognition of fabricators in its program. We commend Clark County for its leadership and diligence in enforcement of the requirements of Chapter 17 of the International Building Code.”

IAS and its parent organization, the International Code Council, encourage all building departments to embrace accreditation, and enforcement of the requirements of IBC Chapter 17, not only for structural fabricators but also for testing laboratories and inspection agencies involved in code compliance activities.

International Accreditation Service assesses and accredits fabricators, special inspection agencies, inspection agencies, testing and calibration laboratories, building departments, product certification agencies, training agencies and curriculum developers. It is a subsidiary of the International Code Council, a membership association dedicated to building safety and fire prevention which develops the codes used to construct residential and commercial buildings, including homes and schools. Most U.S. cities, counties and states choose the International Codes, building safety codes developed by the International Code Council.
