IAS Accreditation Committee Meeting
The IAS Accreditation Committee (AC) meeting resolved some complex industry issues ranging from unlisted electrical equipment to steel fabricator inspection programs.
Raj Nathan, IAS Manager, says, "The Field Evaluation of Unlisted Electrical Equipment is a new proposed document that sets benchmarks for IAS-accredited organizations performing field evaluations of unlisted electrical equipment. Building Officials are constantly faced with the challenge of accepting/rejecting unlisted electrical equipment (paint spray booth, electrical control boxes, etc.) that may have not been listed by one of the accredited organizations in the field. This document will allow for a mechanism for the field evaluation of such unlisted equipment."
Also of interest, the AC251 (Building Departments/Code Enforcement Agencies) discussion came through with major revisions. After a year of review and experience in the field, IAS staff proposed further revisions to the existing criteria that address inadequacies in the existing document or add refinements to clarify the requirements. This revised document is a significant upgrade and will benchmark the accreditation requirements for all Building Departments applying for IAS accreditation.
For building jurisdictions, the AC291 discussion elaborated on the minimum requirements to be met by Special Inspection Agencies that are involved in Chapter 17-type inspections. Revisions to the document proposed to the accreditation committee further enhanced and clarified the current requirements.
AC172 revisions upgraded the technical and quality requirements that are undertaken towards the IAS steel fabrication inspection program. The approved revisions will enhance the enforcement and quality of the fabrication program.
