IAS is pleased to announce the addition of two new members to its Technical Advisory Council (TAC) for Laboratories. Annette Machock, President of Field Calibrations, Inc., in Phoenix, Arizona, and Amr El Hefnawy of the Housing and Building National Research Center in Cairo, Egypt, participated in the August 2 meeting of the IAS TAC for Laboratories in Los Angeles. In addition to the IAS TAC for Laboratories, IAS periodically convenes a TAC for Inspection Agencies. These TACs are comprised of members selected from senior management positions within IAS-accredited testing laboratories, calibration laboratories and inspection agencies, but also include members from governmental or regulatory organizations or recognized technical experts. The councils act in an advisory capacity to IAS on matters regarding accreditation protocol, conformity assessment, testing, calibration, inspection, special inspection under the IBC and other subjects relating to IAS accreditation activities.
IAS recently formed a TAC for Building Departments. This council meets to advise IAS on issues related to the recently launched Building Department Accreditation (BDA) Program. The inaugural meeting of the IAS TAC-BDA was held in conjunction with the IAS Accreditation Committee hearing in Los Angeles on August 3. The council was assembled for presentation of the Proposed Revisions to the Accreditation Criteria for Building Departments/Code Enforcement Agencies (AC251) to the accreditation committee.
The IAS Accreditation Committee is the technical decision-making body that approves Accreditation Criteria pertaining to all of IASs accreditation programs. It is comprised of qualified building and safety regulators selected from small, medium and large building jurisdictions across the U.S.
