WFTAO
members in attendance at the 11th Annual Meeting, November 1-3, in
Pasadena, California.

The eleventh annual
meeting of the World Federation of Technical Assessment Organizations (WFTAO)
convened in Pasadena, California, November 1-3, 2006. WFTAO is a global
association of organizations involved in product certification and conformity
assessment of innovative construction materials and systems that are alternates
to those referenced in the construction codes of the various member economies.
WFTAO currently has membership from 22 countries.
Day one of the 3-day meeting started with a seminar on issues affecting
innovative product approval. Nine papers were presented covering diverse
topics such as: Regulatory Officials Perspective on Technical Recognition
of Building Products, Modern Protocol for Recognition of Engineered Wood
Products, the ICC-Evaluation Service Product Evaluation Program, Third Party
Product Standard Development, Accreditation of Field Evaluation Agencies,
Evaluation of Water-resistive Membranes and Accreditation of Inspection
Bodies.
Day two involved in-depth discussions on the various technical assessment
schemes currently operated by WFTAO members, followed by a workshop conducted
by IAS on product certification and technical assessment.
The third and final day involved transaction of WFTAO's organizational business.
WFTAO members and seminar participants were unanimous in their opinion that
several milestones were reached in the exchange of information and experience.
